Tape, and Shoes, and Electrolytes, OH MY! . . .
It has come as a surprise to me just how much $$gear$$ ultramarathoners require.
Leukotape and shoes are especially important. Leukotaping has been one of Tad and His Dad’s most important tasks during this race, especially because the fancy new Solomon trail shoes they planned to wear for the High Hope 200k tore up their feet so bad they were limping within the first few laps. Even after wrapping each little piggy and the balls of their feet, they were suffering at mile 31, a disheartening predicament when you still have 90+ miles to go. But here’s the crazy thing, 10 miles later, they switched to their OLD running shoes and will finish the race in them. And when I say OLD, I mean OLD.
Tad’s shoes are a worn out, too small pair of On Clouds from an era when he looked something like this . . .

Instead of this:

Bryan’s shoes, a pair of covid-era Brooks, are not much better.
If any On Cloud or Brooks reps are reading this, please consider sponsoring Tad and His Dad. 😉
And the same for all you Re-Lyte reps out there. Your product is currently their electrolyte of choice, but at nearly $50 for a 13 oz. a container, it’s spendy!
